Pharmacy First Service

Did you know that your community pharmacy can provide prescription medicines for some minor conditions under the Pharmacy First Service? They can often do this without an appointment, and most pharmacies have a consultation room so you can talk to them in private. Pharmacists are highly trained health professionals and can give you confidential health advice for a range of common illnesses and complaints. Below are some of the conditions they can help with:

Earache (aged 1 to 17 years)
Impetigo (aged 1 year and over)
Infected insect bites (aged 1 year and over)
Shingles (aged 18 years and over)
Sinusitis (aged 12 years and over)
Sore throats (aged 5 years and over)
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women (aged 16 to 64 years)

Please see the video below to see how your pharmacist can help:

If your pharmacist cannot treat the issue, they can direct you to another service that can help. Information from your consultation with the pharmacist will be sent to your GP practice.

Pharmacists can also provide lots of advice about self-care and over the counter medications to treat minor ailments. They may also be able to provide blood pressure checks and contraception services.
